Senators Will Visit U.S.-Mexico Border

They will receive briefings from federal agents and law enforcement.

Minority members of the Senate led by Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, both of Texas, will visit the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday and Friday. The two senators from Texas will be joined by Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma, Joni Ernst of Iowa, John Barrasso of Wyoming, and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, on an expedition to survey the border in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. From there, they will receive briefings from the National Border Patrol Council, as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas National Guard, local law enforcement, landowners, and others.

Senator Cornyn said, “This crisis is not getting better because the Biden Administration is simply not enforcing the law. The sheer numbers of people coming across the border are keeping the Border Patrol from their primary job, which allows drug cartels to move illicit drugs that kill thousands of Americans every year.”

“Texans are on the frontline of our border crisis,” Senator Cruz said. “Our communities suffer from the rampant influx of drugs and illegal immigration, and we suffer from the crime that accompanies it.“ He added, “We must do more as a country to secure our borders, but at the very level we cannot backslide by removing the current ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy that is helping our Border Patrol agents manage the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants coming to the border every month.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senators Cruz and Cornyn as they lead their group of colleagues in a trip to the southern border.
  • For wisdom for federal legislators and state leaders as they endeavor to manage the illegal entry of foreign nationals into the U.S.
  • For Border Patrol agents as they apprehend migrants and for immigration officials as they process asylum claims.
